Spooky Ghost Story or Just Supernatural Books?

To me gothic literature is all dark and gloomy. Mary Shelly's gothic book 'Frankenstein' on the other hand doesn't seem very gloomy but more mysterious and supernatural. When Shelley's character victor creates 'The Monster', she's injecting a sense of a supernatural event into the readers minds. This becomes supernatural because 'The Monster' is created through the use of the body parts of dead corpses. When Shelley uses this supernatural type of writing she's being highly effective of engaging her readers curiosity. The readers become intrigued as to what might become of  'The Monster' and are looking for more supernatural events in the story.
